When you bring your child for baptism (christening), you will be asked to declare publicly on behalf of your child that you believe in God and that you will bring your child up to follow Jesus.
Holy Baptism is the initiation ceremony into Christ's Church, for adults or the for the children of believers. We welcome to baptism anyone from within the parish of All Saints with St John who wish to make their commitment to Christ on their own behalf or, along with chosen godparents, on behalf of their children. Families from elsewhere who have a real connection with All Saints' church are also welcome with the consent and support of their own parish priest.
We normally celebrate baptism at 3pm on the first Sunday of each month, or occasionally within the 9.30am main service or our monthly all-age service "Saints Alive!". Demand is heavy in this large parish, so is advisable to enquire in good time, soon after your baby's birth. There is a lot of general information for those considering baptism for their children on the Church of England Christenings website, and you may like to read that first. There is a guide for godparents at churchofenglandchristenings.org/godparents/
Please call the Vicarage on 756942 for enquiries about christening, between 9.30am and 4.30pm: the best time to catch us is Monday or Thursday morning most weeks. If there is no answer please leave a message and we shall call you back. Please note that occasional trips on diocesan business, training courses and holidays may mean that an answer may take more than a day. You can download a Baptism application form here, but please do not submit it until you have spoken to one of our clergy and agreed a date with them. Applications can only be made in person or by post, not on line.
